Kalas to lead spiritual renewal event at Philadelphia


Dr. J. Ellsworth Kalas will be the guest teacher/preacher during a two-day spiritual renewal weekend at First United Methodist Church of Philadelphia. 

Kalas, president of Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Ky., will speak at 4:30 p.m. Feb. 28. On March 1, he will lead a 45-minute Bible Study “Hop, Skip, and Jump Through the Bible” beginning at 9 a.m. He will then preach at the 10 a.m. worship service.

For many years Kalas served as a pastor churches in Wisconsin and Ohio before going to Asbury, where among other duties, he was a professor of preaching before being asked to serve as president. Asbury Theological Seminary is the largest seminary in the world in the Wesleyan tradition. Its graduates serve world-wide as pastors, teachers, missionaries and many other areas of ministry. Kalas has been a presenter on Disciple Bible study videos and has published more than 30 books including the popular Parables from the Back Side, and The Grand Sweep
