Cedar Lake United Methodist Church in Biloxi completed its month-long centennial celebration on Oct. 26 with Bishop Hope Morgan Ward preaching.
Thirteen new members were received, 10 on profession of faith including two baptisms. Former pastors Dorothy Dickson-Rishel and John Maki preached services earlier in the month. Cedar Lake was founded in 1908 through the efforts of Jane Dees, who saw the need for a community of faith in the area. Members of the Dees family joined the congregation for the final service of the celebration.
Highlights of the month included recognition of the oldest members, couples who were married at Cedar Lake and families having four or more generations in the church. A quilt listing charter members, the church’s pastors through the years and current members was presented to the congregation by Linda Henson, mother of church member Mark Henson. A time capsule, to be opened in 2108, will be filled with mementos of the celebration.
