St. John’s United Methodist Church in Greenwood held a special Veteran’s Day worship honoring those who have given of themselves for the freedoms that Americans have.
The church joined forces with the Mississippi Valley State University choir and instrumentalist’s to bring the observance to the community on Nov. 9.
The worship service involved several area clergy including the Rev. Glenn Seefeld from First UMC in Greenwood, and featured the sermon given by the Rev. Marjorie Walker from Samuel Chapel UMC in Itta Bena, along with St. John’s the Rev. G. Mitchell McDonald and the Rev. Veronica Pritchard.
The Police Honor Guard along with the local ROTC program presented the colors while Greenwood Mayor Sheriel Perkins led the Pledge of Allegiance. Seefeld led the pledge to the Christian flag.
The combined choir exceeded 50 individuals and sang patriotic versions of The Battle Hymn of the Republic and America. The hymns for the day included Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus, Onward Christian Soldiers and Soldiers of Christ Arise.
A reception followed the worship service.
