Dr. Frank E. Moorer, a 1963 graduate of Rust College, is the presenter for the 11th Annual Earnest A. and Milverta G. Smith Alumni Artist Lecture Series October 9-10 At Rust College in Holly Springs.
Moorer will lecture on author Richard Wright and will focus on the theme “Reading Richard Wright in the 21st Century: Are His Works Still Relevant?” He will make a public presentation on at 2:40 p.m. Oct. 9 and will make class visitations on Oct. 10.
A Wright scholar, Moorer is professor of humanities at Alabama State University. He received critical acclaim for the 1984 publication “Richard Wright: A Collection of Critical Essays.”
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education at Rust. He also earned an M.S. in Library Science from Atlanta University and an M.A. in American Studies from the University of Iowa. In 1991, Moorer earned a doctorate in American Studies also from Iowa.
Moorer has membership in the College Language Association, the Richard Wright Circle, American Literature Association of MLA, and the National Council of Teachers of English.
The Earnest A. & Milverta G. Smith Endowed Alumni Artist/Lecture Series was established in 1997. Earnest Smith was the ninth president of Rust. The Smiths’ vision for the program is to enrich the academic experiences of students by bringing leading alumni in education, business, the humanities, science and mathematics, and social science back to the campus to share their experiences.
