MCC Wesley Foundation group active in missions


Students active in Wesley Foundation at Meridian Community College have been active in missions, and for two their works has led to scholarships.

Kara Harwell and Lindsay Dawkins received $250 scholarships.The MCC Foundation scholarships are awarded to graduating sophomore Wesley officers who mirror the characteristics of Christ-like servant leaders.

Harwell, daughter of John and Bridget Harwell of Meridian, is continuing her education in nursing at Mississippi College. Dawkins, daughter of Gary and Tami Dawkins of DeKalb, seeks a degree in sports management at Union University.

Meanwhile, the Meridian Community College Wesley Foundation recently completed a mission project for UMCOR. Over $1,000 was raised to purchase items for 150 health kits, six layette kits and six sewing kits. Health kits include items such as toothbrushes, soap, hand towels, washcloths and other personal hygiene items. The layette kits include cloth diapers and baby clothing, while the sewing kit includes items to make one garment.

These kits will be distributed by the United Methodist Committee on Relief to individuals in need around the world.
