The Rev. Dr. Richard Gentzler, director of the Center on Aging and Older-Adult Ministries for the General Board of Discipleship of The United Methodist Church, will be the featured speaker when Madison St. Matthew’s UMC serves has host for a senior adult conference.
The event, scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Sept. 6, is titled “Aging and Ministry in the 21st Century.”
The conference, designed for pastors and church representatives interested in senior-adult ministry, will include sessions on topics such as myths and realities of aging, spirituality and aging, how to design an older-adult ministry and intentional ministry with older adults.
“We are honored to have Dr. Gentzler serve as our guest speaker,” said Nora Roberts, St. Matthew’s director of senior-adult ministries and coordinator of the event. “His vast experience in reaching out to older adults will be helpful not just to our church, but also to congregations throughout Mississippi.”
Gentzler’s ministry provides resources and training support for leaders of midlife and older-adult ministries. His work encompasses a large number of constituents, since nearly a third of the approximately 8 million members of The United Methodist Church in the United States are 65 years of age and older.
