This Week
The Rust College A’Cappella Choir will be in concert at Columbus St. James United Methodist Church at 7 p.m. March 9. The choir is under the direction of Dr. Zebedee Jones and will present gospel, spiritual, classical and other selections. The church is located at 722 Military Road in Columbus. Donations are accepted.

 

This Month
Christians around the world experience the pain of Jesus’ crucifixion and celebrate his resurrection on Easter, which will be observed March 23 this year. The conference office will be closed on Good Friday, March 21 and Monday, March 24.
 

The first of two conference-wide Lay Speaking Ministries Leadership Schools for 2008 is scheduled for March 28-29 at Wood Institute in Mathiston. Courses offered include Basic Lay Speaking, Our United Methodist Heritage, Lay Speakers Tell Stories and Lay Speaker Lead Small Groups. Registration forms are available on the conference Web site, www.mississippi-umc.org. 

Session 1 of the Stewardship Academy is scheduled for March 28-29 at Crossgates United Methodist Church in Brandon. Cost is $150 and included all three sessions of the academy. The event is an intensive examination of local church stewardship theory and practice, involving three two-day events, extending over a full year of study. Its recommended for pastors and chairpersons of finance, stewardship and administrative councils. The academy is sponsored by the Mississippi United Methodist Foundation. Next Month
The conference Board of Pensions will be hosting a pre-retirement seminar for clergy who plan to retire within the next five years. Representatives from the General Board of Pension and Health Benefits, Social Security Administration and conference office will be presenting. The event is scheduled for April 1-2 at the Durr-Wise Conference Center at Camp Wesley Pines in Gallman. Make reservations by contacting Byrd Hillman at 800-586-0113.
