Churches receive Welcoming Seed Grants from commission

Projects ranging from Lenten lunches to new signs highlight the plans for Welcoming Seed Grants advertising campaigns provided by the Mississippi Conference Commission on Communications.

The commission offers $500 grants to help churches become more welcoming to their communities. Applications are taken for the grants for projects that help churches become more welcoming. The last grants were awarded during Advent.

Those receiving grants for Lent, listed by district, include:

• Brookhaven – New Zion UMC, Crystal Springs

• East Jackson – Morton UMC, Morton

Greenwood – Haven UMC, Winona

New Albany – Iuka Parish, Iuka

• Seashore – St. Paul UMC, Biloxi

• Senatobia – Coldwater UMC, Coldwater

Starkville – St. James UMC, Columbus

Tupelo – Mt. Nebo UMC, Pontotoc

• West Jackson – Aldersgate UMC, Jackson

In addition, two churches, Hunter's Chapel in Senatobia ($350) and Weems Chapel UMC in Picayune ($300), were selected for at-large grants. The at-large grants were awarded in place of the two districts that did not have any applicants.
