Letter to the Editor: GC 2008 must address sexuality

I would like to thank the reader from Newton for her letter concerning the weakness of the United Methodist Church on sexuality matters.

Correcting this problem is the responsibility of the General Conference as church law must be amended in order to promptly remove immoral members or clergy. Fortunately, the conference will be meeting in April.

I would say this is most important matter the delegates need to address. When it takes months or years to remove an immoral person, it takes the polish off our eagerness to follow Christ and leaves us confused. Thank you for not giving up. We are becoming stable again and promoting sound biblical principles.

Jude 1:4 tells us how some godless people sneaked into the church and said “it is all right to be immoral,” but “long ago the Scriptures warned that these godless people were doomed.” How clearly the Bible describes today’s situation. If we are dedicated to Christ, we will see that God’s way takes precedence.

Calling all delegates, your help is urgently needed. Please don’t let anything come before this problem at the General Conference and let’s show God that we can be accountable.
