Jackie Lou Darr, retired educator


CORINTH — Jackie Lou Darr, 60, died Nov. 19, 2007, at her home.

Services were Nov. 21 at McPeters Inc. Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jack Williams and Dr. Leonard Pratt officiating. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park.

She was the daughter of the late William Marks and Mary Lou Smith Darr.

She was an educator in the Alcorn County School System as long as her health permitted. She was a lifelong member of Gaines Chapel United Methodist Church and served in many leadership positions locally as well as in the district and in other divisions of The United Methodist Church. She was an accomplished musician and vocalist and a published author. She was a contributing writer to the Mississippi United Methodist Advocate for several years.

Survivors include three cousins, Lewise Neely of Big Canoe, Ga., Lowell Ragan of Birmingham and Fred Dalton of Corinth; her caregivers, Vernice Williams and Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Fowler.

Memorials may be made to Gaines Chapel United Methodist Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
