Beckleys complete scholarship

11/20/2007

Dr. David L. Beckley and Dr. Gemma D. Beckley have reached their goal of $100,000 to complete the Georgianna Thompson Endowed Memorial Scholarship Fund at Rust College, the school recently announced.

The Georgianna Thompson Endowed Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 1988 in memory of the president’s mother. The Beckleys latest gift of $7,850 will also focus on completing the Fields-Jackson Endowed Memorial Scholarship Fund established in honor of their grandparents.

“We appreciate and draw strength from the values instilled in us by our parents and grandparents,” said Dr. David Beckley. “Both endowments will enable Rust to sustain a dynamic community of learners and seeks to unite a diverse population of students as active participants in scholarship and service.”

Dr. David Beckley graduated from Rust College in 1967 and serves as the college’s 11th president. His mother Georgianna Thompson graduated from Rust in 1951. The Beckleys have pledged $50,000 for the Fields-Jackson Endowed Memorial Scholarship Fund.
