Tired of fund-raising banquets? Try Wood Institute's non-event

10/16/2007

A benefactor of Wood Institute commented one evening that she would pay to not have to go to a banquet and therefore would not have to listen to information which could be mailed to her, not listen to the director give a glowing report on the future and not listen to an after dinner speaker.

Seemed like a good idea, to the Rev. Ron Barham, founding director of the Mathiston Institute.

So Wood asks that people send the ticket price for their reservation to not come to Wood Institute’s Ministry and Mission Appreciation Non-Banquet during October.

Wood Institute is a mission agency of The Women’s Division of The Board of’ Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church and of the Mississippi Conference.

Wood has invited artist William Dunlap and Lt. Gov. Amy Tuck (who both live near Wood), Bishop Hope Morgan Ward and Mississippians Morgan Freeman, Faith Hill, Selah Ward and John Grisham to not attend the dinner.

Patrons can purchase a speaker’s table for $500-$1,000; a platinum circle for $100-$200 a gold circle for $50-$100 and a silver circle for $25-$50. Send non-reservations to Wood Institute, P.O. Box 289, Mathiston, MS  39752.
