Conference announces AIDS Day plan

10/16/2007

Bishop Fritz Mutti, coordinator of the United Methodist Global AIDS Fund, will be one of the featured speakers when the Mississippi Conference recognizes World AIDS Day on Dec. 1.

Mutti seeks to raise $1 for every United Methodist for the AIDS Fund by 2008.

Also speaking will be Dr. Craig Thompson, who deals with infectious diseases for the Mississippi Department of Health.

Activities are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. at the Jackson Medical Mall. The theme for the event is “8K Every Day…Each Day.” Four sessions will be spread over the morning and early afternoon. Mutti and Thompson will lead sessions, another will include a panel discussion and Bishop Hope Morgan Ward will lead a closing worship service.

Also as part of the event will be an 8K walk, representing the 8,000 people who die each day worldwide from AIDS, and a mobile testing lab.

Local church leaders, young people and ethnic minorities are particularly encouraged to attend, but the event is open to anyone and is free.
