Charlie Mae Herod, clergy spouse


OXFORD — Charlie Mae Herod, 82, a clergy spouse, of Abbeville, died Sept. 16, 2007. Funeral services were held Sept. 21 at the Tallahatchie-Oxford Missionary Baptist Association Building, with the Rev. Frederick Brown officiating. Pallbearers included Vincent Buford, Kenneth Buford, Ralph Kelly, Tim Kelly, Brad Kelly, Jordan Herod, Josh Buford, Calab Herod and Terry Hanes. Honorary pallbearers were Preston Taylor, Ollie Redmond, Jimmy Redmond, Wilbur Thompson, Raymond Logan and Ben Isom. Burial followed at the Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Hodges Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Mrs. Herod was the wife of the Rev. Arthur Herod Sr., a clergy member of the Mississippi Conference of The United Methodist Church.

A native of Lafayette County, she was a homemaker. She was a member of Providence UMC of Abbeville, of the Golden Circle and of the Heroines of Jericho Court No. 11.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca.

Other survivors include daughters, Martha Wadley of Abbeville, Vera Kelly of Davenport, Iowa, Gloria Young of Rock Island, Ill., and Rosie Robertson of Jackson; sons, Arthur Herod Jr. of Davenport and Dr. James Herod of Abbeville; and 17 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
