Alice Allen, retired schoolteacher and clergy spouse

HOLLY SPRINGS - Alice Virginia Turner Allen, 95, died July 28, 2007, at her home.

Services were held Aug. 4 at Asbury United Methodist Church in Holly Springs with the Rev. Fred Brown officiating. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Gardens in Holly Springs. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Mrs. Allen was the spouse of the late Rev. Smith V. Allen, a clergy member of the Mississippi Conference of The United Methodist Church.

She was a retired elementary school educator in the public schools of Mississippi. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Holly Springs. A surviving minister’s wife, she was a former president of both the ministers wives’ association and the United Methodist Women. She was president of the Advisory Board and a member of the Department of Social Work Advisory Council at Rust College. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Constance Allen-Scott; and a son, Timothy Bernard Allen.

Survivors include: daughters, Gwendolyn Allen-Johnson of Atlanta, and Sandra “Sandi” Allen-Stovall of Holly Springs; 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren.
