Le Bonheur Healthcare names VP for elder care

Methodist University Hospital CEO/Administrator Cecelia Sawyer has been named senior vice president of elder care for Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare.

She will begin her new role on Sept. 10. A nationwide search will be held for the next CEO.

In her new role, Sawyer will be poised to have an effect on the care of the aging population with major medical and clinical needs. Medicare is anticipated to account for 80 percent of inpatient discharge growth by 2015.

She began her career with Methodist Healthcare in 1974 as a registered nurse and worked her way through the ranks, serving as vice president for Clinical Services at Methodist University Hospital, chief executive officer at Methodist Hospital South and senior vice president/chief operating officer at Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center.

Sawyer is a graduate of Methodist Hospital School of Nursing and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, and also earned a masters of business administration at the University of Memphis. In 2003, she received a 2003 Healthcare Heroes Award for Administrative Excellence from the Memphis Business Journal.
