White Oak UMC provides aid to ASU Wesley group

White Oak United Methodist Church in Crystal Springs recently donated $500 of a $1,0000 pledge to the Alcorn State University Wesley Foundation.

White Oak pledged its support to the ASU Wesley Foundation in May 2006. Pastor Eddie Spencer, Lay Leader Timothy Crisler and the White Oak members presented the check to the Rev. Vera Hall Stamps, director of the ASU Wesley Foundation, and the ASU Wesley Foundation student leaders at White Oak’s July 15 Sunday morning worship service.

In April, the ASU Wesley Foundation Board of Directors launched its first campaign, “Engaging Students outside the Classroom.” This 2007 campaign is in memory of the late Dr. Clinton Bristow, Jr., the 16th president of Alcorn State University.  The goal of the campaign is to raise $20,000 beyond annual conference support to help further the kingdom of God on the campus of Alcorn State University.

To continue in the campaign efforts, New Zion UMC of Crystal Springs, along with the Brookhaven District, will host the 2nd Annual Gospel Extravaganza Fund Raiser for the ASU Wesley Foundation of Alcorn State University. The gospel extravaganza will be held at 3 p.m. Sept.  20. The pastor of New Zion is Rev. Arthur Lewis, Jr.

The purpose of the extravaganza is to raise funds to support daily ministerial operations, outreaches, mission trips, leadership conferences and leadership training for the ASU Wesley Foundation students.
