Rev. William Ford Pickens, retired pastor
HOUSTON – The Rev. William Ford Pickens, 79, a retired pastor, died July 5, 2007, at the North Mississippi Medical Center.
Services were held July 14 at New Hope United Methodist Church with the Rev. Donnell Cherry officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Williams Memorial Funeral Home of Okolona was in charge of arrangements.
He was born March 23, 1928, to the late Jack and Florence Pickens. He attended the Russell Branch School, Emory Theological Seminary in Atlanta and Woods Junior College. He was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church. He was a minister for more than 30 years, serving churches at Shuqualak, Asbury, Athens, Union Grove, Brooksville Circuit, Macon, St. Paul Parish and the Starkville Circuit. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include: wife of 54 years, Louise Ward Pickens; daughters, Bernice Ford and Lassie Davis of Houston, and Daisy Williams of Okolona; sons, the Rev. Eddie Pickens and Jack Pickens of Houston; sisters, Myrtle Boyd and Annie Moore of Okolona, Dorothy Crawford of Woodland and Carrie Hemby of Washington D.C.; brother, J.C. Pickens of Houston; and nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
