7/17/2007

Retired Bishop Clay Lee and the Rev. Mike Pope of Tuscumbia, Ala., will be the preachers for the 175h Camp Meeting at Shiloh United Methodist Church near Pelahatchie.

The camp meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. July 27 and run through Aug. 5.

Dr. Ron Smith, president of  Wesley Biblical Seminary in Jackson, will be the featured speaker at 3 p.m. Aug, 5. This year’s event marks the 175th anniversary of the Shiloh Camp Meeting.

Four services a day are planned for the open-air tabernacle on the grounds of Shiloh UMC. Every day begins with a devotional at 9 a.m. followed by worship at 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The church, where the Rev. Sam Dodd is pastor, and camp ground are located at 2394 Shiloh Road.

Singing will be part of every service, and at 3 p.m. July 29 will be an "old fashioned singing." Every service will feature solos, duets, quartets, or choirs.

Special leaders will be working with children and youth. Since this is the 175th year, some “characters’ from years long gone by are expected to stop by and tell share a little of the history of Shiloh's Camp Meeting.
