Rev. H.J. Hedgepeth, retired pastor

 

The Rev. H.J. Hedgepeth, 73, a retired clergy member of the Mississippi Conference, died May 24, 2007.
 

Services were held May 26 at First United Methodist Church in Lucedale.

 

Rev. Hedgepeth was born Feb. 9, 1934, in Monticello, to the late Rev. W.R. and Maude Hedgepeth. “H” was an ordained elder of the United Methodist Church and served in the Mississippi Conference for 40 years before retiring in 1997 from Lucedale First UMC. He was currently serving Vernal Presbyterian Church in Greene County.

 

Pastorates in the Mississippi Conference included Stringer-Old Bay Springs, Mount Zion-Hebron, New Augusta-McCallum, Glade-Pendorf, Oak Grove-Grandview, West Laurel, McLain-Beaumont-Leaf, Long Beach, Hattiesburg Broad Street, Forest, Moss Point Dantzler Memorial and Lucedale First UMC-Grace.

 

Survivors include: wife of 51 years, Orell; daughters, Jacky Sparks of Oxford and Rendy  Foster of Ocean Springs; sons the Rev. Mitchell Hedgepeth of Clinton and Michael Hedgepeth of Philadelphia; sisters Loaree Robinson of Pearl, Mary Jones of Brandon and Annelle Stephens, Laurel; brother Curtis Hedgepeth of Port Allen, La.; and 11 grandchildren and a great-grandson.
