Members who registered at the pre-conference briefings can just stop by their respective district table to check in and receive a name badge at Annual Conference. Anyone who did not register at a briefing can register on-site. Please complete your registration card before attempting to register.

Registration opens at 2 p.m. Sunday. Please note, clergy, laity and visitors will all register in the second floor foyer, a change made since the pre-conference briefings. On Monday, registration will resume at 8 a.m. 

Special sessions

Special sessions for lay and clergy members and Clergy Spouses are at 4 p.m. Sunday. Lay members will meet in the gym, the Clergy Executive Session will meet in the sanctuary, and the Clergy Spouses business meeting will be in the fellowship hall. 

Get your shine on

All members are encouraged to wear their “Arise! Shine!” lapel pins. Replacements will be available for $1. 


Registration has been extended for childcare, and the age range has expanded. Care for older children will be offered. Cost is $10 per child per day and $5 per child for evening worship. Register by noon Friday using the form on the conference Web site.

All children and youth must be supervised during Annual Conference. 

Just for youth

Young people in grades 7-12 are invited to a "day of new beginnings" Wednesday at Annual Conference. Youth will gather at 2 p.m. in the Youth Worship Room for a time of sharing and Q&A with incoming Coordinator of Young People's Ministries the Rev. Roger Shock. Teens will also participate in interactive Nothing But Nets activities and attend the Commissioning and Sending Forth worship service. 

Mission offering

Bishop Hope Morgan Ward has designated the 2007 Annual Conference Mission Offering to support ministries with children and youth in Zimbabwe and Mississippi. In the spirit of chabadza, 50 percent of the offering for youth and children's ministry in Zimbabwe and 50 percent for youth and children's ministry in Mississippi. 

Meal tickets

Groups hosting special meals during conference will have one central location for distributing and selling tickets. The ticket station is on the north end of the Great Hall. 

Last-day lunch

Barbecue chicken and pulled pork plates catered by Chimneyville Smokehouse will be available at lunch Wednesday for $5. Tickets will be on sale at the ticket table in the Great Hall. 

Rust dinner

College will host its annual Alumni and Friends Dinner at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Holmes Hall on the campus of Tougaloo College. Tickets are $12 and will be available at the ticket station in the Great Hall from 9 a.m. until noon and 1:30-3:30 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday morning. To reserve tickets in advance, call Emma Miller at 662-252-8000, ext. 4915. Shuttle service will be provided, with shuttles departing from Christ at 4:30 and 5 p.m. 

Special meals

Many groups are having special breakfasts, luncheons, or dinners during Annual Conference. The special meals schedule is available on the conference Web site. 


Coffee, soft drinks and breakfast foods will be available for purchase at the fellowship hall serving line just off the Great Hall 9:30-11:30 a.m. Monday, 9-11 a.m. Tuesday and 9:30-11 a.m. Wednesday. 

Young voices

Children in kindergarten through fifth grade are invited to sing in a mass children’s choir during evening worship on Monday. The choir will lead two songs to open the service. Contact the Rev. Chuck Hallford at 601-914-7110 for more information. 

Come and worship

Worship is an important part of Annual Conference. Built around Isaiah 61, the worship services will be full of rejoicing and celebration. All services will be held in the Christ UMC sanctuary.

  • Service of Ordination, 6:30 p.m. Sunday
  • Service of Eucharistic Sharing with Bishop Duncan Gray III of the Mississippi Episcopal Diocese, 8:30 a.m. Monday
  • Memorial Service with Bishop Ivan Abrahams of the Methodist Church of Southern Africa preaching, 2 p.m. Monday
  • Mission Service with conference mission offering and Bishop Abrahams preaching, 7:30 p.m. Monday
  • Celebration of Charles Wesley’s Life and Music, 7:30 p.m. Tuesday
  • Morning Worship with Bishop Abrahams preaching, 8:30 a.m. Wednesday
  • Service of Commissioning and Sending Forth, 4 p.m. Wednesday

Emergency number

The main telephone number at Christ UMC is 601-956-6974. During conference, calls to this number will be answered live from 8 a.m. through 8 p.m. 

Health check

Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare personnel will offer free blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol screenings at Annual Conference. 

Mission fair

Members are encouraged to use their “mission passports” to visit the many wonderful displays in the mission fair. Those who fill their passports will receive goody bags as well as great information and ideas for mission and ministry.


Nothing But Nets is a project to fight malaria in Africa. Every 30 seconds a child dies of malaria. A donation of just $10 will purchase an insecticide-treated bed net for a family in Africa. Visit “The Net” area in the courtyard on Monday and Tuesday afternoons or during the lunch break Wednesday to take a shot, make a donation or learn more about NBN. (Sneakers recommended!) 

Per diem

Members who may receive per diem from the conference are listed on page 259 of the 2006 Journal, Volume 1. Members eligible for per diem should keep in mind:

  • As in 2006, per diem will be paid at Annual Conference. No payments will be issued prior to conference.
  • Eligible members will receive a signed per diem authorization form from one of the following: district superintendent (district officers, equalizing members and seminary students), conference liaison officer (retirees and surviving spouses), or director of Connectional Ministries (conference officers).
  • Per diem recipients shall bring their completed forms to conference and turn them in at the on-site treasurer’s office by noon June 11. Do not mail forms to the conference office; they will be returned.
  • Checks may be picked up the evening of June 12, after worship or any time June 13. Per diem recipients who must leave conference early may make arrangements with the treasurer’s office to get their checks early.
  • No checks will be mailed.


Mantles of praise

The 2007 Annual Conference will be a celebration of ministry, and all conference members and guests can join in the celebration by making “mantles of praise” in the mission fair area. Mantles or garlands can be made from a variety of materials. Have some already finished? Bring them with you!
