Elizabeth Cumbest’s song “Seashore” has won the Devozine SoulTunes Contest.
The Upper Room's devotional magazine for youth sponsored the contest for youth bands and songwriters. Online voting determined the winner out of three finalists.
Elizabeth will perform "Seashore" at Youth 2007, the largest quadrennial youth event of The United Methodist Church, in Greensboro, N.C., in July. She is scheduled to perform at the opening worship service with Fusebox, a popular Christian band.
"Seashore" is one of seven songs Cumbest, 15, wrote following Hurricane Katrina. The teenager released a CD All Things New - Songs of Hope after Hurricane Katrina earlier this year. Proceeds from its sale benefit the Seashore Mission, a United Methodist ministry to the homeless in Biloxi. The mission's facilities were destroyed in Katrina.
Cumbest is the daughter of Rev. Chris and Rev. Sheila Cumbest.
