Golf tournament to aid ministerial scholarships

Golfers who also want to support ministerial education are invited to participate in a tournament in May.

Jackson Christ United Methodist Church has scheduled its annual Ministerial Scholarship Fund tournament for May 24 at Whisper Lake Country Club in Madison.

The tournament format is four-person scramble. Teams will be paired using individual handicaps. Regular foursomes may play together but must register together. Cost is $125 per person. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m.

The fund was established to secure and distribute funds to those preparing for full-time ministry in The United Methodist Church who do not have the financial capacity to complete their educational programs without enduring long-term commitments to the repayment of student loans.

Since the income from newly appointed ministerial positions hardly meets one’s daily living expenses, much less the added burden of loan repayments, the fund helps new ministers beginning the challenge of doing God’s work to not be encumbered with financial hardship.

To be considered for scholarship assistance, prospects must be a member of The United Methodist Church, have successfully completed college and be preparing for full-time ministry at an accredited seminary. They must submit a letter of application which includes biographical data, a statement of a call to ministry and verification of financial need.
