Como UMW revives, installs new officers

Hattie Bunch and Cheryl Denley were the special guests recently when the United Methodist Women of Como United Methodist Church installed officers.

Bunch, the past president of the Senatobia District UMW, installed the officers who are to serve for 2007. Denley, the secretary to the superintendent of Senatobia District, presented a program outlining “Our Purpose — Missions.”

An increase in attendance, interest and service is happening at Como UMW meetings. In the past year the number of women attending has increased from seven to 15. President JoAnne Billingsley attributes the growth to:

  • A foundation laid by longtime members who have contributed time, talent and energy for many years
  • A renewed commitment to hands-on service projects including a number of school, health and sewing kits for delivery to the United Methodist Committee on Relief warehouse

Meetings held during the summer, normally a non-meeting time.

Members are interested in prayer shawls and hospital gowns as future projects. Serving lunch to students at the Wesley Foundation at Northwest Mississippi Community College is an ongoing project.

The Rev. Randy Owen is pastor of Como United Methodist Church.
