The Millsaps Players will present the musical A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to the Forum on Feb. 22-25.
The show runs at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday in the Christian Center Auditorium on the Millsaps campus. The curtain rises at 2 p.m. Sunday.
Brent W. Lefavor, associate professor of production and design, will direct and dedicates this show to Dr. Catherine Freis, professor of classical studies, who will retire from Millsaps this year after 32 years of teaching. The show combines two of Freis’ passions: classical drama and the American musical theatre, says Lefavor.
The original Broadway run of A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to the Forum opened in May 1962 and won the Tony Award for Best Musical in 1963. The story, written by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart, is inspired by the plays of the second century B.C. Roman playwright Plautus. The music and lyrics are by Stephen Sondheim.
The production will be choreographed by Linda Mann, with music direction by Harlan Zackery.
Tickets are $10 for regular admission and $8 for seniors. For tickets, contact the box office one hour before show time or Linda Nix at 601-974-1422 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
