HOUMA, La. — John Thomas Young, 85, a retired businessman, died Dec. 2, 2006.


Graveside services were held Dec. 9 at Forrest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville, Ind.


A native of Shelbyville, Mr. Young was a former resident of Maben, Miss., where he was owner and CEO of Monte Glove Co. and was also retired from Young Oil and Supra Fuel.


A Merchant Marine, Young was active in the United Methodist Church, serving on the local, district and conference levels, including serving on the Mississippi Conference Communications Commission.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Naomi Weintraut Young, and his parents, John Stephen Young and Katheryn Hester Winkles Young.


Survivors include: daughters, Kate Love of Houma and Jenny Harrison of Tupelo, Miss.; sister, Betty Kelley of Kalamzoo, Mich.; and five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
