Conference seeks stories for Lenten guide

12/19/2006

The Mississippi Conference is preparing a devotional guide of daily reflections for United Methodists to use during Lent.

The guide will include first-person accounts of events or experiences from the Civil Rights Movement that could inspire others to keep pressing toward the Promised Land.

“It is my hope that the devotional guide will assist families in reflecting on our achievement in race relations here in Mississippi over the last 40-plus years,” said the Rev. Lindsey Robinson of the conference staff. “Furthermore, it will help us talk about how far we have yet to journey until we reach the place in race relations that God desires for us in Mississippi. I hope this guide can help us have respectful and safe conversations on a sensitive but critical matter for our living in community.”

Clergy and laity are invited to submit reflections by Jan. 3. Send to Lenten Devotional, P.O. Box 1147, Jackson MS 39215.

Reflections should be fewer than 250 words. Write in first-person and describe events and experiences from your own life. If you quote a passage of scripture, please supply the chapter and verse and the version of the Bible you are quoting. If you quote other material, please cite the original source.

Provide a one- or two-sentence biography with your reflection. Please include your name as you want it printed and your city.
