Hubert Gill Wallace, retired pastor

— The Rev. Hubert Gill Wallace, 91, a retried pastor, died Oct. 12, 2006. 

A memorial service was held Oct. 17 at Benoit Union Church, Benoit Miss.

Rev. Wallace born April 29, 1915 in Tate County, Miss., the fourth of 11 children of the Rev. Henry Hawkins and Dewdrop Brooks Wallace. Educated in the public schools of the towns in which his father served as Methodist minister, Rev. Wallace was a graduate of Sunflower Junior College in Moorhead, Miss, and of Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss. He attended Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta.

In 1941 Rev. Wallace and his wife Kathleen began 43 years of service in the North Mississippi Conference of the United Methodist Church, serving as pastor in Shannon, Arcola, Tremont, Houlka, Coffeeville, Horn Lake, Coldwater, Moorhead, Belmont, Shuqualak, Lyon, Goodman and Benoit.

Survivors include: wife of 65 years, Kathleen Howell Wallace; sons, Toby Wallace of Dallas and the Rev. J. Larry Wallace of Summit, Miss.; Carolyn and William Wallace of Asheville, N. C., and seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
