Rev. John F. Carter was honored Aug. 19 on the occasion of his 90th birthday with a reception held at Shiloh United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.
Approximately 250 friends and family came to join in the celebration. He is presently serving as pastor of Lodebar United Methodist Church which helped host the event.
Members from many former churches he has served along with family and neighbors enjoyed food and fellowship. Six varieties of cakes, coffee and punch were served by his nieces. Virginia Johnson registered the guests. Judy Rhodes Davis provided background music on the piano. The celebration was planned and directed by his niece, Elsie Banes.
A table in the center of the room holding a bouquet roses was overflowing with birthday cards, many from people who could not attend.
Carter resides at his old home place at Shiloh. In addition to preaching every Sunday, he makes hospital and nursing home visits several times a week. He continues to perform weddings and conduct funerals. His many years of ministry have touch countless lives, and he continues to be an inspiration to all who know him.
