Those looking for a way to thank the volunteers who continue to visit Mississippi to help with recovery from Hurricane Katrina have an option almost guaranteed to be accepted with joy.

Bishop Hope Morgan Ward and Mississippi United Methodist Katrina Response officials seek 100 people to give $100 to purchase beds for volunteers.

“Mike and I have sent $100, so we only need 99 more,” Ward said.

Gifts should be sent to the conference treasurer at P.O. Box 1201, Jackson, MS  39215 and designated for multi-purpose building beds.

The Mississippi Conference has five camps with lodging for volunteers. At full capacity, the camps would have 368 beds. Beds are needed for Camp St. Paul in Ocean Springs, Camp Hope in Vancleave and Camp Love at Nugent UMC in Gulfport.

In addition to housing volunteers, the buildings provide storage space for recovery materials and other needs associated with rebuilding the Gulf Coast.
