Bill Carroll, 54, of Tupelo has been selected to receive this year’s Distinguished Alumni Award from Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta.

A leader in work with senior citizens, Carroll was director of Mississippi Methodist Senior Services for 27 years. Established in 1961, the program has blossomed into a statewide institution with 11 care facilities for the elderly serving 1,600 residents.

Nationally he has held key leadership roles in the Health and Welfare Ministries of the United Methodist Church, the National Association of Retirement Housing and the American Association of Homes and Services.

During 10 years of his retirement, Carroll voluntarily served as the director of the Shepherd’s Center of Greater Tupelo, an organization of senior citizens working to improve their communities.
