Alcorn State Wesley group bonds with Brookhaven District churches

8/1/2006

The Wesley Foundation at Alcorn State University recently received a $500 donation from White Oak United Methodist Church of Crystal Springs.

Pastor Eddie Spencer, Lay Leader Timothy Crisler and the White Oak members have pledged $1,000 a year to assist the ASU Wesley Foundation with meeting its ministry goals and operational expenses.

The Brookhaven District sponsored a gospel music benefit program for the ASU Wesley Foundation. The event was hosted by New Zion UMC of Crystal Springs. The extravaganza was held on July 30. New Zion is pastored by Rev. Robert Pittman.

The ASU Wesley Foundation provides ministry activities for students at Alcorn State University in Lorman, including weekly Bible studies, plays, outreach activities and gospel concerts.

In May, the foundation sponsored its semi-annual Camp Explosion for Christ. The event hosted 130 participants – 80 youth and 50 adults at the Wesley Foundation building in Lorman. The theme for the event was “We are About Our Father’s Business,” from Luke 2:49.

In the fall, the foundation plans to host Christian authors, such as Spencer (who wrote Inmate 46857) and Stephanie Warner Lewis, author of The Two Shall Become One.
