Bernice A. Butler Jackson, clergy spouse


GULFPORT — Bernice A. Butler Jackson, 79, died July 7, 2006. 

She was born on March 19, 1927, in Biloxi. She was the fifth of eleven children born to the late Ed Butler Sr. and Willie C. Bradley Butler. 

Services were held July 13 at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church in Gulfport with burial in Biloxi National Cemetery. 

She was the spouse of the Rev. Calvin H. Jackson, a clergy member of the Mississippi Conference. 

Mrs. Jackson was a graduate of 33rd Avenue High School in Gulfport and attended Tougaloo College. She was a member of the Eastern Star. She was a long-time member of Mount Pleasant UMC where she was a member of United Methodist Women, served as secretary of the church and was a faithful stewardess. She was employed with the Head Start Program for over 28 years.

Other survivors include: daughters, Tommiette Jackson Ingram, Jacquelyn Jackson Jones and Jocelyn Jackson Barrows, all of Atlanta; sons, Calvin H. Jackson Jr. and Ronald A. Jackson both of Gulfport, Alvin E. Jackson of Dallas and Gary W. Jackson both of Dallas, and Kermit K. Jackson of Atlanta; brother, Ed Butler Jr. of Gulfport; and 18 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren.
