Beauregard women say retreat helps bring them closer to God

Inspired by a seminar, women at Beauregard United Methodist Church decided to hold a retreat for women.

The group prayed for direction and decided on a Friday evening to Saturday afternoon format. The women agreed to fast the day before the retreat and then meet and pray that night for God’s spirit to lead the weekend.

All women in the church were invited along with friends, family and others in the community. The weekend featured meals, snacks, music, bonfire, sleep over and devotionals.

Some 24 women attended the opening session, and seven stayed overnight. On Saturday, 20 people attended.

As the Rev. Dayna Goff of Natchez prayed in the stillness of the outdoor gathering, a strong, cool breeze swept over the group. Those who attended expressed no doubt that the Holy Spirit had just passed over them, letting them know God was there and was pleased with all the events of the weekend.

Since the retreat, organizers have heard several testimonies of how much the weekend meant to participants and how their lives were impacted. Before the weekend was over, women were already talking about wanting another retreat in the fall.
