Safe Harbor confirms 16 new members

Safe Harbor in Escatawpa confirmed 16 children and youth into church membership, including six baptisms.

The Revs. John Tucker and Gene Vance conducted the special service June 4.

During the six-week program, the children learned fundamentals of Christianity and building a relationship with Christ, and also completed a mentor program where adults, participating as mentors, had the opportunity to meet weekly with each child and answer questions, share stories and grow together.

Safe Harbor United Methodist Church, like many other churches in the area, was heavily damaged during Hurricane Katrina. Despite the setback, the church is currently in the building a new and larger facility on Mississippi 63

Children and youth completing the confirmation class included Jason Allen, Abigail Tucker, James Rico, Jonathan Bowie, Alex Tucker, Emily Bowie, Emily Westfaul, Kayla Rico, Ashton Rico, Rachel Wolfe, Gary Thompson, Kevin Martinez, Luz Martinez, Shannon Williamson and Elijah Tucker. Christopher McKinney, who attended classes at Safe Harbor, joined at Dantzler United Methodist Church.
