Conference sets benefits workshops

Special to the Advocate

The conference Board of Medical Benefits and Board of Pensions have scheduled four joint clergy compensation and benefits workshops later this month.

The workshops are set for July 24 at Wiggins First United Methodist Church, July 25 at Madison UMC, July 26 at Starkville First UMC and July 27 at Batesville First UMC.

The workshops will be divided into three sessions. Clergy and spouses are encouraged to attend all three events if they apply to individual circumstances. Local church Staff-Parish Committee chairs, Finance Committee chairs and treasurers are encouraged to attend the clergy compensation segment but are welcome at the other sessions.

The times and session content are the same each day. The sessions:

1-3 p.m.: High deductible/health savings account —
Those who plan to enroll in the new high deductible/health savings account plan must attend this session. Full benefits and responsibilities will be discussed. Representatives from the third-party administrator (American Administrative Group) will be in  the session.

3-5 p.m.: New clergy pension plan, Clergy Retirement Security Plan — The General Board of Pension and Health Benefits will be sending a representative to explain the new plan that will take effect Jan. 1. Time will not be spent on the other plans of the general board.

6:30-8 p.m.: Clergy compensation  — David Stotts will present the 2007 clergy budget compensation package.  While there are few changes in the form this year, costly errors were made on the 2006 forms. Those who did not attend a session last year are strongly encouraged to attend this session.
