Stanford releases book; Gunter’s at Cokesbury

Two pastors in the Mississippi Conference are making news in the publishing world.

The Rev. Doyce W. Gunter recently announced that Cokesbury Bookstore in Ridgeland is the retail outlet for his book Leading the Rural Church. In the past 10 months some 150 copies have been sold. A few copies are still available at Wood Institute.

Meanwhile, Abingdon Press plans to release The Seven Next Words of Christ by the Rev. Shane Stanford on April 1. This marks the second book by Stanford that Abingdon has published.

The book focuses on what Christ had to save after the resurrection. During that time he surprised, consoled, rebuked and inspired his followers through seven encounters.

In addition to the releasing the book, Stanford has scheduled several books signings and programs relating to the book. Signings are scheduled for 1 p.m. April 8 at Crossgates Christian Bookstore in Hattiesburg and at 10:30 a.m. April 15 at Merle Norman and More Gifts in Petal. Programs based on the book are scheduled:

  • April 5 — Poplar Springs UMC, Meridian

  • April 19 — Parkway Heights UMC, Hattiesburg
  • April 30 — Poplarville UMC
