Benton UMC creates scholarship fund for Christian vocations

Benton United Methodist Church has established a scholarship to assist United Methodist students preparing to enter into a career of Christian ministry, including the pastorate, evangelism, ministry of church music, youth ministries and-or children ministries. 

This scholarship will be awarded to students who exhibit moral character and academic potential.  

Eligibility requirements include:

Be an active, full member of a Mississippi Conference United Methodist church for at least one year prior to application. Any Benton UMC members who apply will be given priority.

Enrollment in a junior or senior college or entering seminary school.

 an entering freshman, the student must have a cumulative high school grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. 

A student must be accepted on a full-time basis at an eligible institution.

A student must maintain progress toward a degree with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 a 4.0 scale.

The student must re-apply annually for this scholarship.

Two scholarships will be awarded annually and may total $1,000 per year. Students maintaining the required GPA and meeting all other requirements will be awarded $500 per semester (totaling $1,000 annually).

A completed application packet must be received by April 30. The application packet includes an application form and an outline for obtaining three letters of recommendation.

Recipients of the scholarship must provide Benton UMC proof of enrollment to an accredited junior college, senior college or theological seminary by July 30. Once proof of enrollment has been received, the funds will be released to the institution.
