Prescribe Yourself to Health with the Help of Preventative Medicine

3/27/2012

Over the last 30 years I have had the honor to work with many of the best healthcare groups and professionals throughout our country. Preventive medicine has progressed to a point where it has become an important component in most health benefit plans and to our own individual lives. My work in the early days of public health education in, a fairly specialized field of hypertension (high blood pressure), gave me the opportunity to study and learn many things about the benefits of preventive medicine and/or “ lifestyle” changes.

Through our Mississippi Conference Amazing Pace pedometer program, we have proven that increasing daily physical activity brings about many benefits that improve the quality of life for our participants. We thank God for our engaged and active Mississippi Conference members who have stepped up and made a real difference and a real impact on their lives and the lives of others through their involvement.

At the end of this article is a link to a video which features Dr. Mike Evans preventive medicine specialist who has created a “prescription” that has been proven to lower the incident of knee arthritis by 47%, lower the onset of dementia and Alzheimer’s by 50%; improve diabetic outcomes by 58%, and is the number ONE treatment for fatigue. Are you hypertensive? This prescription is for you.

Dr. Evan’s prescription is worth an investment of 9 minutes and 19 seconds of your time to watch. I know we live in a time when standing in line at a grocery store for more than a minute will often seem like a whole day, but I believe this video is well worth the investment.

The video answers this question: What is the single best thing we can do for our health? Here is a hint: Can you live each day with 23½ hours of sleeping, working, TV watching, driving and sitting?

After you see the “prescription,” I urge you to “prescribe” this to yourself and see if you can work it into your daily routine for the next ten days. I also urge you to share this video link with your congregations, community leaders and civic clubs, youth groups and schools, your friends and especially with your family. With a little effort -- and 30 minutes a day -- we can improve our quality of life and set an example to all generations. God is good! We have blessings everywhere! May you live, worship and love with energy and hope!
