"The Faith of a Child"
Read Mark 10:13-16
'Do you hear what these children are saying?' they asked him.
'Yes,' replied Jesus, 'have you never read, From the lips of
children and infants you have ordained praise?'
-- Matthew 21:16
When my grandson Brandon was about five-years-old he came with me to church to take care of some chore that needed doing. It was a hot summer afternoon, one of those rare days when the sun is shining but rain clouds lurk about in the sky, teasing those below with the half-promise of the possibility of relief from the heat.
As we waited in the parking lot for others to come and work, Brandon drank Kool-Aid from a cup and played on the driveway. It wasn't long before one of those clouds decided to dump a little moisture on us. It was just too hot not to stay outside and enjoy the rain. As rain hit his face, I watched as he lifted his cup toward heaven and cried out, " Here, God, see if you can hit the cup!"
How wonderful it would be if we never lost that innocent faith in a God who not only loves us but also is willing to play a game of trying to hit the cup with raindrops. I know God smiled with me that day as my grandson demonstrated to me a faith that I would do well to emulate. -- Jane B. Thomas
Prayer: Loving and faithful Father, gather us in your arms and teach us to love you with the faith of a child. Never let us lose the joy of being your child, and may we praise you all our days. Amen.
