Gods temple is holy, and you are that temple. - I Corinthians 3:17
The invitation went forth recently at Anderson United Methodist Church in Jackson to embrace health and wholeness.
The first step was a health fair, with free health screenings and educational material available.
The next step was the invitation to participate in a physical exam, made possible through the United Methodist connection and the Convenient Care Clinic at the Jackson Medical Mall. Thirty persons signed up for physicals.
The next step was the invitation to become one of Andersons Greatest Losers. A total of 130 persons have signed up to be a part of this team approach to weight loss in three months. Four teams will compete for the honor of losing the most weight, in the hope of being more healthy. The Greatest Losers each entered a covenant to 1) pray for the good health of all, 2) to meet every two weeks for community, a weigh-in, and support, 3) to be physically active, and 4) to eat fewer foods high in fat and more fruits and vegetables. The first team meeting was Aug. 10, with healthcare professionals on hand to give helpful guidance in the area of fitness, diet, and other health issues.
An excellent example of how a local church can live toward God with body as well as with mind and spirit! If you have a healthy ministry story to share, contact Gwen Green at email@example.com!
